Stress And Anxiety Relief Tips

Did your boss just yell at you? Was a customer rude? Are you super-stressed about a report due at work? If so, there are several simple techniques you can use for stress and anxiety relief.

Be Aware of Your Body

The first trick to fast stress and anxiety relief is in knowing when you are tense. What does tension feel like for you? Do your shoulders tighten up? Does your jaw clench? Make it a point to “check in” with your body a few times a day. If you find signs of tension, it’s time to activate some plans for stess and anxiety releif.

Get Moving

Stand up and stretch, take a walk, go jogging on your lunch hour, or schedule a twenty-minute workout at the end of the day. Moving your body is one way to relieve stress and anxiety quickly.

Take Time to Breathe

Go into your office, cubicle, or some other place where you will not be interrupted. Take a deep breath. Inhale through your nose, hold your breath for a count of three, and exhale through your mouth. Do this ten times, and you will feel the tension in your body melt away.

Use Imagery

Another surefire method for stress and anxiety releif is to imagine yourself someplace else, someplace you find relaxing and comforting. Many people imagine a favorite spot in the wilderness, or a favorite room in their house.

Challenge Irrational Thoughts

As you become more upset, your thoughts may become more irrational and catastrophic. (For instance, “If I don’t get this report finished on time, I’ll lose my job, and my wife will divorce me, and I’ll end up homeless…”) Stop the irrational thoughts as soon as you notice them and replace them with a more realistic assessment. “Asking for a two day extension won’t be the end of the world,” or, “If I take a deep breath and focus, I can bring this in on time.”

Break Large Tasks into Small Steps

If you’re overwhelmed at the idea of completing a large project, break it up into small steps. Give yourself a little reward, like a trip to the soda machine or a five-minute mini-break after completing each tiny step.

Lay Off Caffeine and Sugar

Ever seen a two-year old get completely wired after eating a couple of cookies or drinking a pop? That’s exactly what happens to adults when we take in too much sugar or caffeine. But since we can’t very well run around the office making airplane noises, we carry the stess in our bodies.

Take a Play Break

Some professionals keep “squish” balls at their desk to squeeze for fast relief of stress and anxiety. Other people take a few minutes to play a game at www.addictinggames.com. They’re quick (less than five minutes), easy to play, and many don’t require a download.

Blow Off Steam…Judiciously

There’s nothing wrong with venting a little, but words spoken in anger can haunt you for a long time if they’re read or overheard by the wrong person. Don’t put anything in email you don’t want the whole office to see.

Don’t Expect To Avoid All Sources of Stress

Finally, remember that it’s natural to feel stress when you leave your comfort zone. Some stress must be endured as you expand your horizons, learn new tasks and earn new responsibilities. That kind of stress may not be much fun, but in the long run, it’s worth it!

Stress Management: 4 Steps to Massive Stress Relief by Having Fun

Tip! Bought a membership to a health club expecting to get stress relief from making other people happy.

Over the years I’ve collected scores of comics and cartoons about marriage, families, stress and change. There is just something about a good comic strip that can many times explain something much better than I can.

One of my all time favorite strips in the “Family Circus” - and not just because the little boy’s name is Jeff. It’s also because it realistically captures many of the struggles of day to day living.

A few years back, I cut out a Family Circus that had just two scenes in it.

Tip! When she receives genuine compliments instead of enjoying the stress relief of the compliment, she has difficulty accepting them.

The first scene shows the two parents, huddled attentively in front of the TV, watching an older and obviously learned gentleman lecturing on The Fundamentals of Having Fun, if you can believe such a title.

The second scene simply shows the kids out in the yard - running, playing, swinging, playing chase, and basically Having Fun!

Now, can someone please explain to me how it is that we go from being kids who naturally know how to have fun to being adults that have to watch a TV program in order to learn how to have fun?

Exactly what has happened to us?

What I notice with more and more frequency, both in my practice and in my seminars, is that many “grown-ups” have somehow forgotten how to do at least two very important things in life: how to rest and how to have fun.

Tip! Ignoring stress relief by not listening to her children.

We’ll save how to rest for another time. Today we will tackle a very simple exercise on how to have fun.

Four Simple Steps to Remembering How to Have Fun

Step 1 - Write down 5 -10 things that you like to do for fun. They can be small, just a few minute things or larger more time consuming activities, and everything in between. If you can’t think of at least five things you like to do for fun, call me, we need to talk………….

Step 2 - Looking at your list, do the following:

put a “D” next to each thing you have done in the last day/24 hours

put a “W” next to each thing you have done in the last week

put an “M” next to each thing you have done in the last month

put a 6 next to each thing you have done in the last 6 months, and finally

put a 1 next to each thing you have done in the last year

Step 3 - Review your list. If you find you have lots of D’s and W’s, good for you! If you are like most folks however, you will find you have many more 1’s, 6’s and M’s than you might have expected. That’s the purpose of this little check-up, to give you a bit of a wake up call. Now on to step four and what you can do about this…………

Step 4 - Choose just one activity from your list that you can commit to doing in the next week. Make the decision to do this activity NO MATTER WHAT!

We tend to make things so difficult, when really this can be quite simple.

Then the next week, choose something else from your list and do that one. And so on and so on. In this way, you get 100% improvement each week.

Not bad, huh?

Now if you really want to be radical, you could do one thing from your list everyday.

But that might be too much fun………………

5 Ways To Stress Relief

How to Relief Stress in 3 Minutes! Learn how to relief stress and bubble joy in 3 minutes to 30 days. You can have these simple, fast and effective secrets too.

Stress has been called ‘the plague of our time’. More than ever before stress relief seems to be in great demand and especially for people in stressful jobs or careers. It would be more appropriate to ask which jobs or careers are not stress related and you would probably be able to count the number on one hand. As a self help tool for handling stressful situations in your everyday life, I’ll give you 5 simple methods for instantly relieving stress that has worked great for me. I really hope these methods can be useful for you as well.

Tip! Take a walk. Walking is one of the best stress relief techniques if you have at least ten minutes.

Remove stress with relaxation

If you are stressed, sit down at the most comfortable place you can find, close your eyes and say to your self slowly:

“I am calm. Absolutely calm. I feel relaxed. My hands are heavy. I’m calm and relaxed. My arms are heavy and relaxed. My arms and my legs are relaxed and heavy. My torso is relaxed, calm and feels heavy. My shoulders and neck are heavy and relaxed. My entire body is calm, relaxed and heavy. I feel great, relaxed and calm. I feel warmth spreading from my stomach to all parts of my body. My entire body is calm, relaxed, heavy and warm. I feel good and I’m totally relieved from stress. ”

Tip! Ignoring stress relief by not listening to her partner.

Continue having this feeling of being totally relaxed and stress less for as long as you can or want. When you decide to finish this down-stressing session, take a deep breath and stretch out your arms in a short and energetic movement. How do you feel now? Practice this exercise every time you feel stressed.

Tip! Ignoring stress relief by not listening to her children.

Sit down and look at the Sea

If you are stressed and need to relax go to the harbor, the nearest beach or any place close to the sea, or a lake if you live in the inland. Just sit there and feel it, smell it, hear it. Don’t think so much, just sense. Do you feel relaxed? Keep on until you feel the stress has left you.

Tip! Giving her opinion of stress relief when it was not solicited.

Take a Walk

If you are stressed leave your home or office and take a thirty minute walk. Just walk don’t talk to anybody. Try to relax while you walk. Instead of thinking or focusing on your current problems, try to sense your environments like smell, sound impressions and what you see as well as your inner feelings; heart beat, your feet touching the ground and the movements of your arms. Do you feel relaxed now? After half an hour your stressful feelings should have disappeared.

Listen to Music

If you are stressed sit or lie down, walk or do whatever you want, while you are listening to music. Don’t listen to heavy rock and similar music, this might invoke even more stress. Relaxing with a Nat King Cole ballad or two, some slow pace smooth Jazz, the Adagietto movement of Gustav Mahlers 5th symphony or Mozart’s Grand Partita for wind instruments are all great. Do you feel more relaxed? Is your stressfulness leaving you? It should.
